In 2021, chemist Benjamin List was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on catalysis—the branch of chemistry he calls the most important technology humanity has learned to use. Catalysis involves chemical reactions that transform ordinary materials into useful chemicals, and it is applied in virtually every field imaginable.
In a conversation with Gustav Källstrand from the Nobel Prize Museum, List explains how catalysis has enabled us to feed and warm more people, cure diseases, and power transportation more efficiently—and how, in the future, it can help drive the transition to a sustainable society.
The discussion is recorded for the Nobel Prize Museum’s award-winning Swedish podcast Idéer som förändrar världen (Ideas that change the world).
After the conversation, you are welcome to explore the museum’s exhibitions, Bistro Nobel, and the museum shop, which will remain open until 21:00.
