Nobel Prizes that changed the world
In his will, Alfred Nobel wrote that the Nobel Prizes should go to those who have “conferred the greatest benefit to humankind.” What does it mean and how are the Nobel Prize laureates selected? In this guided tour, you will learn more about Alfred Nobel and how Nobel Prize laureates are chosen. We will also explore Nobel Prizes that have changed the world, and get to know the people behind them. Is there something that unites them?
Through highlights in our object collection in the exhibition These things changed the world, we get to know laureates and learn more about why they have been awarded the Nobel Prize. The objects tell stories of how the laureates’ discoveries provide insights and make life longer and safer, for you and for humankind.

Humanity – a journey into literature and peace
In this tour, we explore the remarkable experience of being human. What shapes an individual? And what does it mean to be human—or even humane?
In the tour Humanity, we begin with Alfred Nobel’s own interest in literature and his path toward a peace prize. From there, we let literature and peace laureates guide us through the major questions of human experience: How is exile portrayed, and where does some people’s courage come from?
In our exhibition These things changed the world, we get to know the Nobel Prize laureates and approach both the best and the worst of what it means to be human.

Cosmos – a journey into physics
In this guided tour, we explore the very smallest within the very largest. Our address is called the Milky Way, but what do we actually know about it? And what truly lies beyond?
In the tour Cosmos, we venture out into the infinite. Starting from Alfred Nobel’s lifelong curiosity, we take a closer look at humanity’s sense of wonder before the unknown. We are guided through Nobel Prize–awarded insights into black holes and exoplanets. In our exhibition These things changed the world, we get to know the Nobel Prize laureates and challenge our thinking with the cosmic proportions that define the universe.

What is life? – a journey into chemistry and medicine
Chemical compounds create the conditions for life. But what do we actually know? And what more is there to discover?
In this tour, we explore life itself from different perspectives. Starting from Alfred Nobel’s lifelong curiosity, we take a closer look at Nobel Prize–winning discoveries in chemistry and medicine. We move between DNA spirals and gene-editing tools and ask ourselves whether one of the laureates truly drank a cocktail containing stomach-ulcer bacteria. In our exhibition These things changed the world, we get to know the Nobel Prize laureates and understand what we know today—but also what we do not yet understand.
