Alfred Nobel stated in his will that the Nobel Prize should be awarded to those who, within their field, had worked for “the greatest benefit to humankind.”
The impact of the work done by laureates in peace and medicine is often clearly visible. A new vaccine saves lives, just as peace organisations fighting famine ensure food reaches those in need. Efforts to promote human rights and develop new medicines help and save many.
But there are also Nobel Prizes in peace and medicine that we view quite differently today than when they were awarded. What once seemed like a great achievement may have taken on a new meaning in hindsight. How should we understand these prizes in light of what we know today?
During the evening, we will screen the three documentary films that form the basis of our ongoing exhibition Combat Disease – Three Stories from the Field of Medicine. Through these films, we meet a researcher, a doctor, and a nurse who are all fighting for better global health.
- Shadows in Sunlight, directed by Ruhi Hamid
- Bloodlines, Mississippi, directed by Crystal Kayiza
- Life Invisible, directed by Bettina Perut and Iván Osnovikoff
The films will be shown consecutively, in connection with the evening’s guided tours. The total screening time for all three films is 60 minutes.
This festive Friday evening offers a special combo ticket for 210 SEK including museum entry, guided tour, film screening, and your choice of non-alcoholic drink from the bar along with unlimited popcorn refills.
Warm welcome to a Friday evening that deepens our understanding of life-saving efforts!
