Being able to drink clean water is a given in Sweden, and access to safe drinking water is one of our most fundamental conditions for life and health. We take fresh water for granted and see it as natural to drink healthy, high-quality water straight from the tap without getting sick.
But today, we face new challenges. Climate change—through both droughts and floods—as well as pollution from bedrock, industries, consumer products, and pharmaceuticals threaten the quality and availability of drinking water. In many parts of the world, access to water is already a critical issue. Humans can survive for weeks without food, but only a few days without drinking water.
The issue of clean water is therefore more relevant than ever. At this seminar, opportunities, challenges, and current research will be presented from an environmental medicine perspective, with a focus on health, climate, and the environment.
