How can a single cell give rise to complex systems such as the central nervous system in the brain and spinal cord? How does the peripheral nervous system work, consisting of nerve fibres throughout the body? And what do we know about the enteric nervous system, which governs functions in the stomach and intestines? The conference will gather leading international and national scientists with expertise in these areas.

The groundbreaking work of Nobel Laureates Santiago Ramón y Cajal and Camillo Golgi in the late 1800s laid the foundation for our understanding of the brain’s complexity. In 1906, they were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Since then, many discoveries about how brain structures function have also been recognised with the Nobel Prize. Yet, many fundamental questions about how these structures arise and operate remain unanswered.

You are warmly welcome to learn about the latest research within this research area.
