How are Nobel Prize laureates selected? And who makes the call to tell them they’ve been awarded one of the prizes?
Every October – since 1901 – a handful of scientists, authors, and peace workers around the world receive a life-changing phone call. They learn that their research and contributions have been recognised with a Nobel Prize.
Before that call is made, a thorough and extensive process takes place within the awarding institutions responsible for deciding who will receive the prize. Which institutions are involved, how do they work, and what might it sound like when a sleepy laureate answers the phone in the middle of the night?
Join our special guided tours, available during Nobel Calling Stockholm 2025, and hear the story of what happens behind the scenes!
The tour is included in the museum ticket and there are 25 places available per session. Please register at the museum entrance well in advance if you wish to attend.
