On 13 October at 11:45, this year’s Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel is announced. Experience the excitement of the live announcement at the Nobel Prize Museum.
Each day, the announcement of this year’s Nobel Prize recipients is live-streamed as the respective Nobel Prize committees reveal who will be awarded in their fields. Invited experts are on site to help explain what the prizes are awarded for — and what they could mean for the future.
About the economic sciences prize
In 1968, Sveriges Riksbank (Sweden’s central bank) established the Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. The prize is based on a donation that the Nobel Foundation received in 1968 from Sveriges Riksbank on the occasion of the bank’s 300th anniversary.
The first prize in economic sciences was awarded to Ragnar Frisch and Jan Tinbergen in 1969. Since then, laureates in economic sciences have been selected by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, according to the same principles as for the Nobel Prizes that the Academy has awarded since 1901.
