Welcome to one of the largest zebrafish facilities in the Nordic region. During a one-hour guided tour, our staff will walk you through everything from technical equipment and animal husbandry to cutting-edge research.
What does a large-scale animal facility look like, and how does the staff work? What measures are taken to ensure the welfare of the animals? In which research fields are zebrafish used? How can they contribute to the discovery of new medicines and a deeper understanding of human diseases?
See how zebrafish are bred—from mating and fertilisation to adulthood. Learn how to distinguish between sexes and how we keep track of thousands of individuals. Take a look through microscopes to observe embryos and larvae at various stages of development. You’ll also witness fluorescence glowing brightly inside living larvae. If you’ve never seen a green, beating heart or red blood cells flowing through a vascular system, now’s your chance.
The tour also includes a demonstration of a high-throughput system used in drug development. You’ll learn how zebrafish are used to understand human diseases and to identify new treatment methods.
There will be time for your questions during and after the tour.
