Through mirrors, colored plexiglass, and light sources, visitors not only move through the space, they shape it. The installation The Light We Reflect by Saadia Hussain is inspired by the 2024 prize in economic sciences, awarded to Daron Acemoglu, Simon Johnson and James A. Robinson “for studies of how institutions are formed and affect prosperity”, the work translates theory into artistic, spatial practice. The laureates’ research shows how historically rooted power structures – often with colonial origins – continue to shape the distribution of resources and influence.
In The Light We Reflect, each redirected beam becomes a symbolic act of change, showing how even small shifts can open new perspectives. The intention is to create an accessible space where we meet through light and reflection.
The artwork has been created in collaboration with the local community of Järva: Språkbruket, Legoklubben (Tekniska museet), Rokeya’s Sewing Workshop (Studiefrämjandet), Låt konsten tala (Framtidens hus Rinkeby), Träffpunkt för seniorer Spånga-Tensta, Tensta Tech, Järva gymnasium and Förskolan Änglan Norr.
