SMASH have been inspired by three notable figures. Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat who saved thousands of jews in Budapest from the holocaust, Elie Wiesel, 1986 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate awarded ‘for being a messenger to mankind: his message is one of peace, atonement and dignity” and the 1961 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dag Hammarskjöld and his work for “developing the UN into an effective and constructive international organization, capable of giving life to the principles and aims expressed in the UN Charter”.

The artwork features quotes from Dag Hammarskjöld, Elie Wiesel and Raoul Wallenberg, paired with light animations made up of thousands of small glowing lights.

These individual glowing particles unite to make something larger than themselves: geometric patterns and shapes move through abstract and organized forms as they all appear in front of our eyes.
