Artist Fredrik Jönsson was inspired by a quote from the 1984 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Desmond Tutu, who got the prize for “his role as a unifying leader figure in the non-violent campaign to resolve the problem of apartheid in South Africa.”
The quote “Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness” will be represented in this artwork, as light invites the visitor to step through the sculpture.
The original sculpture ARCH by Ai Weiwei calls upon the visitor to reflect on the uncertainty and unrest of the times that we live in. The light installation by Jönsson enhances the feeling of hope by immersing anyone passing through in white light, as a symbol of safety, security and peace.

Fredrik Jönsson is a multiple award-winning lighting designer, who has worked with lighting in a variety of forms and contexts for more than three decades. His accomplishments include lighting design for 20 consecutive editions of Melodifestivalen, award winning lighting design for the Eurovision Song Contest, numerous large scale television productions and the artwork Dialog as part of Nobel Week Lights 2021.
Ai Weiwei is a Chinese artist and social activist. His practice which spans art, architecture and filmmaking has given him a lot of acclaim from all over the world.
