What comes to mind when you hear the word economics? Money, banks, perhaps savings and stocks? Economics is about much more than that. Economic research explores topics such as human behaviour, the environment, health, psychology, and how societies are built and developed.
Last year, the prize in economic sciences recognized research that provided new insights into how emerging technologies can drive sustained economic growth. What is this year’s Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel about?
On the same day as the Laureates are announced, we invite you to an evening at the Riksbank, where members of the Committee for the Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, will discuss and explain all about the 2026 prize in economic sciences.
Participants include Deputy Governor Göran Hjelm, along with representatives from the Economic Sciences Prize Committee. The conversation will be moderated by Olof Somell from the Nobel Prize Museum.
The conversation is organized by Sveriges Riksbank in collaboration with the Nobel Prize Museum, as part of Nobel Calling Stockholm 2026.
About the Prize in Economic Sciences
In 1968, Sveriges Riksbank (Sweden’s central bank) established the Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel.
The prize is based on a donation that the Nobel Foundation received in 1968 from Sveriges Riksbank on the occasion of the bank’s 300th anniversary.
