Tensta Light Art Installation

Anne Roininen

Tenstagången | Free admission

For the artwork Tensta Light Art Installation, interviews have been made with the residents of Tensta Tower, and colours connected to each individual have been chosen for each home. The residents are invited to switch on and off a light with this colour according to the rhythms of their own daily lives. Together, this creates a series of portraits shown together in a shared cityscape.

The artwork is connected to My Name Is Red by author Orhan Pamuk, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2006. His novel revolves around the intrigues within a community of sixteenth-century artists and is told through a multitude of voices. While Western art is often associated with a single creator, the opposite is true in Pamuk’s fictional world, where the story is woven together by people, animals, and objects, creating a picture larger than a single narrator can provide.

Like Pamuk’s novel, artist Anne Roininen’s installation in Tensta explores who really creates an image, and how many voices can be contained within a single work. Here, the residents of Tensta Tower, together with the building itself, tell a shared story.
